Year 12 Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations Year 12 on your graduation and completion of this phase of your life’s journey. Our best wishes go with you as you leave Inaburra.

This school has been a special place in which you have grown as people of compassion and kindness. May God continue to bless you in the future, bringing about his good purposes in your life and providing you with many opportunities and moments that shine through the darkness to reveal his good and wonderful light.

We look forward to welcoming you back as Inaburra Alumni sometime in the near future and hearing where your path has lead.

CSSA Secondary Open Boys Cricket Gala Day- Round 1

Students from Inaburra competed in Round 1 of the CSSA Secondary Open Boys Cricket Gala Day last week at Nolan’s Reserve. Inaburra was in a tough draw against Northern Beaches Christian School and Pacific Hills Christian School. Unfortunately, Inaburra lost both games by 11 runs but there were some impressive results throughout the day including Travis scoring 33 runs and taking 3 wickets. Inaburra displayed excellent sportsmanship skills throughout the day.

Senior Leadership Induction Ceremony

The Inaburra Leadership Induction Assembly was held last Wednesday in the presence of the Senior School students, staff and the parents of the Prefects and Year 9 Leaders. Dr Pietsch announced the Captains for 2018/2019 – Lily Welsh and Ashton Yee. Congratulations to the new captains and all the students taking on leadership roles for the next 12 months.

ICAS Maths Competition and Australian Maths Competition 2018

Today in assembly we saw a video clip of a mathematician who used Mathematics to make the decision of the best beach to surf at. Who would have thought that Mathematics theory can help us make good decisions??

We want to encourage all students to develop their Maths skills so that they can solve problems like this.

Awards were then presented to those who earned Distinctions or High Distinctions in two competitions. Congratulations to each of these students.

HSC Showcase Nights

The three HSC Showcase events were over the last few weeks, displaying the amazing hard work and talent of our HSC students taking a range of practically applied subjects.

Throughout the events, we saw live drama performances, visual arts exhibitions, literary works and historical reflections. The Design an Technology Projects on display were full of creativity and details, from a snake tank design to an interactive smart mirror. The Textiles Major Projects had been sent off for marking, but copies of project work and photos should the astonishing details in their creations.

Drama students performed both their individual monologues and collaborative group pieces to a captivated audience, displaying their mastery of realising and sustaining a character for the duration of a dramatic work. Equal mastery was displayed in the quality and skill of the Dance students' performances.

The third and final HSC Major Works Showcase event for 2018 featured our Music 1, 2 and Extension students who exhibited a wide range of virtuoso performance and composition pieces including Dizzy Gillespie, Chopin, Charlie Parker, Stevie Ray Vaughan and a bit of John Butler thrown in the mix. Our audience was fully appreciative of the many months and years these students have dedicated to perfecting their craft that we can now enjoy a night of quality performance and wonderful entertainment.

HICES Debating Grand Final Win!!!

On Wednesday 5 September, our Senior (Year 9&10) and Open division (Year 11&12) debaters competed in the prestigious HICES Debating Grand Final, held at the University of Technology Sydney. This year the HICES Debating Competition consisted of 44 Independent Co-Educational Schools from across NSW, with a total of 239 teams, 513 debates held, and 1,445 students involved. It was an honour and an absolutely outstanding achievement to make it to this level and have the opportunity to speak on the Grand Final stage. We couldn’t have hoped for a better season.

On the day, our Senior Division team, consisting of Tetian, Darcy, Mia and Katherine, presented a strong case affirming the topic, ‘That Independent Schools should have their fees set by the Government’. They were awarded second place in the debate and overall. We are delighted with their achievements and congratulate them on this fantastic result. Darcy was also awarded the Best Speaker in the Southern region during the Preliminary Rounds and runner up overall in the entire Senior Division. We also congratulate Mia who was awarded the Best Debater in the Semi-Final rounds and the equal overall winner in the Senior Division. Annabel also received an award for the Best Debater in the Middle Division for the Preliminary Rounds.

Our Open Division team debated following the Senior debate and presented a highly sophisticated, insightful and logical case to affirm the notion, ‘That there should be a ‘none of the above’ option on voting forms’. Sarah S, Sarah B, Christopher and Kristina were unanimously declared victorious by the panel of adjudicators and were awarded the Chapman Cup as winners of the 2018 HICES Debating Open Division Grand Final. These debaters are beyond thrilled and we are so very proud of their commitment to achieving excellence in debating. The cheer from the audience following the announcement was a testament to the character and skillset demonstrated by our team and also a reflection of the pride we felt seeing our debaters succeed. Sarah S is commended on receiving the award for the Best Debater in the Preliminary Rounds and the Runner up in the Open Division. Congratulations also to Kristina Argiropoulos for receiving awards for the Best Debater in the Semi-Final rounds, Runner up in the Open Division and the Best Debater in the Grand Final.

Special thanks to Dr. Pietsch, who travelled to the Aerial Function Centre to support our debaters and present the awards to all the Grand Final Winners. We also appreciate the Mr. Collins’ ongoing support and encouragement throughout the season, and also thank Mr. Watson for his unwavering support and witty commentary throughout the day. A special thank you must also go to our Middle Division debaters who travelled to the event to support the Debaters and have upheld our Senior and Open debaters in prayer and encouragement during this exciting time. Ultimately, we thank God for the opportunity to serve Him through these achievements and for blessing us with insight, the art of speech, and for these incredible opportunities.

We have enjoyed our HICES Debating Season and after three years in the Competition have achieved spectacular results. Congratulations to all involved.
