Last Friday, students from the Year 11 Economics class attended the Parliamentary Committee for Economics today with Reserve Bank Governor, Mr Glenn Stephens. Our School Captain, Lyarna Woellner, had the privilege of asking a question of the Governor:
"Given we live in a competitive global world where we can choose to work here or somewhere else like Singapore, is there a danger that our current Australian personal tax rates may discourage my generation from staying in Australia to work?"
After the hearing the students moved onto the Parliamentary Offices in Bligh Street and had lunch with several politicians, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Barnaby Joyce. Thanks to the Federal Member for Hughes, Mr Craig Kelly, for organising this fantastic opportunity.
